It was a Good Weekend

Grant and I started out our Saturday in the usual fashion, went to the gym. We stopped by the vet to pick up Scout and take her to Nannie's and then we were off to incredible pizza.

This is NOT my favorite place. It is, however, my son's favorite place. So, I finally gave in and took him. he was thrilled. We had a great time! bumper cars and games, pizza and Diet Dr. Pepper.

Sunday we went to church and then met Auntie Lauren and Janie for lunch at Taco Vaca. That was an experience. I think that place is as close to an actual Mexican restaurant as you can get. Anyway, we stopped by the contemporary kids park downtown and then off to visit our cousins, Leah, Hannah and Lucas. We got to see Aunt Dixie as well, who is visiting from New Jersey. We had a good time catching up and watching the kids play.

He rode his scooter while I delivered.

And finally, I taught Grant how to do laundry on Friday
night. HE did a nice job. Now if only he'd fold....

Homework

I was reviewing Grant's school work last night and am constantly amazed at how quickly he is learning things and how *beautiful* his hand writing is for a boy. I'm thrilled about it, actually. I have a thing for hand writing. Always have. I like it perfect. And neat. Grant's well on his way!

Kisses and Valentine's

Grant had a wonderful Valentine's Day. He came home with a little box he decorated and went through each card and read them. This is the first year he actually cared to read them and see who they were from. They had a Valentine's Day party at school and *apparently* Sunni kissed Grant at this party.

Grant: "Mom, Sunni kissed me today at school. Two times. And, I didn't even tell on her."

Me: (shocked privately) "Really? Wow. Where did she kiss you?"

Grant: "Once on the cheek and once on the throat."

Me: (totally freaked out) "Well, that's nice son." -I have no idea how to respond to that. None. I'm still drawing a blank. I'm not prepared for this. Sunni is a lovely little girl. Prettiest in the class and her parents are very kind and hard working.  And, I am a little proud the prettiest girl in class likes Grant. The little charmer that he is.

His Valentine basket from me contained his favorite
Axe body spray. He put some on this morning. Perhaps
that's why Sunni kissed him and the commercials are right.

Nannie took Grant to get his Mommy a Valentine.
So sweet. Grant picked this out. It smells like
Cinnamon. A giant Red Hot cinnamon.

times we had to try this shot.

Fits, Chocolate and Mantle Shooting

It was one of those cold weekends. Too cold to even want to run errands. Or go to the movies. We ventured out to the gym and that was enough for us.
We all know Grant and my personalities. We need to be busy. Productive (me), playing (Grant). We butted heads a few times, to say the least. I captured most of the main events with my phone.

We'll start with meltdown number one on Friday night, when Grant could NOT talk me into taking him to get a movie.

Grant was sent to his room to "think" privately. He decided
to totally annoy me and bounce the basketball, because
"Mom's are the worst and he doesn't like them"

He here is actually thinking. This lasted about 30
seconds, at best.

Saturday afternoon brought about much
imagination. Grant decorated the mantle....
with GUNS.

Saturday night. Totally nuts. Knight in shinning armor.

Sunday afternoon. Target practice.

Auntie Lauren came over, YEAH!! She played too.

Lauren had a great idea to have a contest to see who
could shoot down the most Lego guys. Sam came over,
too. No pictures of him, though. Sorry Sam. We'll
get you next time.

It was a good weekend. Auntie Lauren always makes things more fun. We love you, Auntie Lauren. We're ready for the next Nerf Lego Guy challenge.

John Travolta

I picked up Grant from school today and he was in the "music" center dancing. Like John Travolta. He's added a few moves, which I didn't capture, but his teachers were impressed and insistent that he preform for me. He's quite the entertainer.

Mom of the Year I am NOT

Yesterday I broke a tooth at work. It hurt. Luckily, I work for dentists, so I got fixed immediately. Apparently getting a tooth filled takes the very life out of me because when I got home with Grant I was exhausted. Like ready to go to bed exhausted. Grant went about his usual Wii and homework while his Mom laid there. In bed. Not moving.

I did, however, manage to make him dinner.

I know. Don't judge. He asked if olives could be his
vegetable. Ummm, okay.

After his wholesome dinner of cold macaroni and cheese, olives and peanut butter and jelly sandwich he had Cinnamon Toast Crunch for desert.  We were in bed, going to sleep with the lights out, at 7:22. No joke.

But today, I feel great. I'm guessing Grant won't be so thrilled with me when he finds out he has to eat a normal dinner tonight.

He's My Son

The other day I went to work out and Grant wanted to go to the child care they had there. This immediately caused me anxiety. I did NOT like to do things like that when I was his age. I was scared of new places and people I didn't know. I reluctantly took him down the hall to this room that was filled with things for children. He walked in, introduced himself as Grant Matthias Ehret, 6 years old and was attending elementary school in the fall. I was speechless. He clearly had no anxiety at all. He hardly looked up when I left.

Then it hit me. This child was indeed mine, but he did NOT inherit my anxiety. I realized that I avoid situations that made me nervous as a child assuming he would feel the same way. I learned once again from him that my feeling are not his feelings. I was so proud of him and so disappointed in me. Lesson learned.

Fast forward to last night. It was the show and share dilemma once again. He finally decided on a batman car after the GI Joe (Yes, he made another appearance) comic book failed the YMCA standard of acceptable items.  He mentioned to me his homework wasn't right. I read through it and read the directions and it was indeed correct. He insisted it was not and it bugged him all night. This morning he woke up and the first words out of his mouth were, "I told you my homework is incorrect and now I won't get to do a show and share".

I thought and thought on this. I finally said, go sit down at the table and do what you feel needs to be done in order to make it right. So he did. He made one minor addition to something and that was all. He was back to the normal little Grant I know. It hit me that I used to be the same way, well , I still am. Perhaps he's more like me than I thought.
